Message Me, Sean (sfarrah) and Doug (not sure about screen name) attended a Driver's Edge event at Motorsport Ranch just this past weekend. Me and Sean have been attending these events fairly regularly, but it was Doug's first time out at the track, hope I got him hooked :) Couple of pics...

Woot! Notice my new track wheel setup, FN01R-C 17x10 all around with Toyo RA-1 275/40/17.

Doug managed to snap a pic of my car shooting flames (I was infamous at the event as the "green Z that shoots flames" LOL, gotta work on my deccel map points):

Short video of a close call with a Lotus Elise losing it in front of me, I debated about stopping or going around him after the spin, good thing I opted to stop since he rolled backwards:

Video of me chasing Sean in his 350Z, it was difficult keeping up with him on this track:

It was a fun weekend at MSR, I found that my higher powered Z wasn't that much faster vs. other cars at this small track, the straights are so short, power didn't make that much of a difference. Just FYI for those of you thinking of attending the Zcon event...

We then rushed home Sun to catch the Superbowl, woohoo Steelers!

On to drag racing...

I was planning to attend the import shootout at the San Antonio Raceway today but the weather forecast earlier in the week called for rain. So I decided to head down to the track on Wed instead, a quick oil/tire change, loaded the race gas map and I was drag racing 2 days after the MSR event :) Still on road race alignment (2deg camber in the back)...

I got a number of runs in but never got a clean run, 3 of the runs I missed 4th gear (I have a grinding issue with 4th gear), I aborted a few runs because the track was too slippery. My best run was a 10.90 @ 123mph, the low mph was because I short shifted 3rd gear by about 400rpm when the car got too squirrelly for my taste. Here's the timeslip and video:

You can see in the video the car was squirelly the whole way down the track :(

BTW, my Z has stock heads, stock cams, stock pistons/rods and "small" S15 (GT28R) turbos. All of my runs were 1.51-1.52 60ft, with stock flywheel, ACT 6 puck clutch, MT ET Streets and no gears, though I wonder if the Leader gears may further improve my 60fts. When I have the money though my next mod will be cams...

Lastly a parts review: The Forge wastegate actuators are incredible! I was running 30% duty cycle at MSR giving me 17 Psi boost, and 80% duty cycle at SAR giving me 22-24 PSI boost. Boost response was great, data logging at MSR showed I hit 15 PSI of boost at ~3600 rpm and 17 PSI boost at ~3800rpm. When I was running the HKS actuators the boost response has always been odd, it will boost upto 7 PSI quickly and then build boost slowly from 7PSI onwards. I always thought it was a wastegate actuator issue and after switching to the Forge actuators boost actually spooled faster from 7 PSI on vs. 0 to 7 psi. My guess is that the HKS actuator spring is too weak to fully hold the wastegate shut once the exhaust manifold pressure reached 15 PSI or higher (exh manifold pressure is usually 2-3 times intake manifold pressure). With the Forge actuator you can swap to stiffer springs as needed, and not have to preload the actuators as much. Two thumbs up for the Forge actuators!
